Greg Davis
Mr. Davis is the Director of Bands at Azle High School, where he coordinates all band curriculum from grades 6-12. He is the Director of the Marching Green Pride and the Azle Wind Ensemble, and assists with Symphonic Band I and II. The Marching Green Pride was named a Bands of America Regional Finalist in 2021 for the first time in the history of the program. and was a UIL Area F 5A Finalist in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Before coming to Azle, Mr. Davis was the Assistant Director of Bands at Ridge Point High School in Fort Bend ISD from 2016-2019. Under his direction, the Non-Varsity Symphonic Band received their first unanimous Sweepstakes award in the history of the program. He was also the director of the Jazz Ensemble. Mr. Davis additionally oversaw the private lesson program, the solo and ensemble contest, and was responsible for the development of the visual component of the marching band.
Mr. Davis holds the Master of Music Education degree from Southern Methodist University, where he was a recipient of the Tunks Scholarship. He holds the Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he studied tuba with Dennis AsKew and conducting with John Locke. During his time studying at the university, he was the principal tubist of the UNCG Wind Ensemble. This included performances at the American Bandmasters Association Convention in 2011, as well as the College Band Directors National Association Convention in 2013. Additionally, he was fortunate to perform world premieres of works by John Mackey, Stephen Bryant, Joel Puckett, and Scott Lindroth, as well as record three commercially-available albums with the wind ensemble: “Finish Line!”, “Arts and Letters”, and “Stories and Sanctuaries.”
In 2014 Mr. Davis was a tuba player and percussionist in the Japan tour cast of the Emmy and Tony award-winning stage show, Blast!. In this role, he performed in all 47 Japanese prefectures over the course of a four month tour, including a month-long run in the International Forum in Tokyo.
From 2006 through 2011, Mr. Davis was a member and section leader of the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps. During his time with Crown, the corps improved from 8th place in his initial year to winning two Jim Ott Awards for brass performance, and continues to see success in the drum corps activity.
In 2018, Mr. Davis was a member of the brass staff at the Santa Clara Vanguard, where he helped them to win the 2018 DCI World Championship, as well as the Jim Ott trophy for brass performance. From 2015-2017, Mr. Davis was a member of the brass staff at the Arizona Academy Drum and Bugle Corps, where he helped the corps achieve their first Top 12 Finals appearance in the history of the organization.
Mr. Davis is incredibly fortunate to have been inspired by several influential mentors in his life, among them Lynne Jackson, Matt Harloff, Donnie VanDoren, John Locke, Dennis AsKew, and Mike Barnes. Mr. Davis lives in Azle with his wife, Kacie and son, Bodie.
